It's the first thing most people want to know - and the honest answer is "it depends". A simple brochure website and a large, integrated platform are very different projects. Rather than hide behind that, here's a plain-English guide to what drives the cost of an Umbraco website, so you can budget with confidence. When you're ready, we'll turn it into a clear, fixed quote.

What affects the cost

A few things make the biggest difference:

  • The size of the website - how many page types and templates, and how much bespoke design.

  • Integrations - CRMs, payment providers, APIs and other systems all add work.

  • New build vs migration - moving an existing website can be quicker, or more involved if it's on an old version.

  • Content - whether you're supplying the content or you'd like us to help.

  • Ongoing needs - hosting, support and maintenance once you're live.

New build vs migration

If you're starting fresh, we design and build a bespoke Umbraco website around your brand and goals. If you already have an Umbraco website on an older version, a migration or upgrade is often the more cost-effective route - take a look at our Umbraco migration services. Either way, we'll recommend the option that gives you the best value, not the biggest invoice.

Our pricing

We're transparent about cost. Wherever possible we quote per project, so you know the price up front before any work begins. For ad-hoc or ongoing work we charge a standard hourly rate of £80 + VAT, and for agencies we offer white-label Umbraco development at £70 + VAT per hour. Most website projects are then confirmed as a fixed price once we understand exactly what you need.

Ongoing costs

Beyond the build, it's worth budgeting for hosting (from Umbraco Cloud to Azure, AWS or a managed VPS - we'll help you choose), plus optional support and maintenance to keep your website secure, up to date and running smoothly. Our support plans are flexible, from ad-hoc help to monthly SLAs.

Want a real number? Tell us about your project and we'll send a free, no-obligation estimate - usually within one working day.

Frequently Asked Questions

A smaller, brochure-style Umbraco website is our most affordable option - typically a fixed price agreed up front once we know how many pages and features you need. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll give you a clear quote with no surprises.

Often, yes. Umbraco's core is free and open-source, so there are no licence fees like you'd pay with Kentico or Sitecore. You invest in the design and build rather than annual licences, which usually makes it more cost-effective over time - especially for small and mid-sized organisations.

Wherever possible we quote a fixed price for the whole project, so you know the cost up front. For ad-hoc or ongoing work we charge a standard hourly rate of £80 + VAT, and for agencies we offer white-label Umbraco development at £70 + VAT per hour.
